Go For It! Build Your Confidence - Network - Job Skills - Career!

Experience what’s going on in real world agency operations

The California Park & Recreation Society offers you hundreds of training sessions each year at conference, within your District and within various special interest sections. As an undergraduate you learn most of your field-related knowledge in the classroom. By attending professional association conferences, meetings and/or special events, learn about current, industry-specific work by mingling with professionals in the field.

Get Scholarships!

CPRS’ California Foundation for Parks and Recreation annually awards 15 to 20 scholarships to junior, senior, and graduate level students majoring in recreation, parks and leisure studies throughout California. Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $2500.

Gain access to trends information, resource documents and on-line communities for research projects

CPRS is the resource for California park and recreation best practices, techniques, strategies, products and trends. CPRS is the leading technical assistance provider to the park and recreation industry in California. Our resource library contains over 1300 documents for your use. Our on-line communities give you access to industry experts.

Dazzle potential employers with your abilities

Volunteer opportunities connect you with professionals you need to meet. You know how good you are, but you need to get “out there” and show potential employers your skills and abilities. In most cases, you are serving on a committee with people of vast knowledge and experience whom you can watch in action and also gain valuable insight into ways and how they are successful.

Build credibility

You can add your professional association involvement to your resume! Employers and graduate schools like to see students who are invested in their majors and careers. By being involved, you show them you are taking time to invest in your future career.

Save money - you get student conference rates!

As a full-time undergraduate or graduate student, you pay extremely reduced fees for the conference. (Professionals register for a fee of $389 vs. the student rate of $30 and that includes your lunch!)

Direct your career path

Meet your next employer! Students can talk to professionals in relaxed settings from all over the state about internships or employment positions available. You make great contacts for future career aspirations.

It’s fun!

Mix and mingle opportunities are available locally and statewide including the Annual Conference & EXPO, and District & Section socials and trainings.
