MY love of CPRS began in the first stages of my career with the City of San Jose. I attended CPRS, District 4 meetings for information and to connect with like-minded colleagues. I began to support training efforts of District 4 with my experience as a Training Specialist. In (year) I was asked if I wanted to run for Vice President and low and behold, I was voted in and lead the CPRS District 4 for two years as Vice President and President. Since being president within Region 2 I have also been on local host committees for our annual conference. In 2013 I was extremely honored to be presented the presidential award. From January 2019 – August 2022 I took a brief hiatus from Government Recreation but remained committed to CPRS by being back stage, marshaling the production of the Opening General Session in 2019, at the start of the pandemic.

In addition to supporting CPRS I served as Bay Area Public Pool Operator's Association's presidential series from 2017 - 2019 and I am a member of Redwood City's Parks and Art Foundation.

What personal attributes, skills, or knowledge would you bring to the State Board of Directors if elected?

My passion for the industry is aligned with the drive that is necessary to lead at the state level. My experience spans a career of 22 years including work in a large and small city and special district in California. I also have experience with the Collegiate Recreation field that help me provide perspective for the state board. I am compassionate for those that may need support and determined to continue to advance our industry.

Why have you chosen to run for the CPRS State Board of Directors?

I, once again, have this amazing opportunity to step up and give back to our California Parks and Recreation Society as your candidate for Region 2 Representative. My efforts will center around engaging with Districts 4, 5, and 6 by ensuring you have the support and resources you need to succeed and grow as districts and professionals. While collaborating with other region representatives, state board elects and section leaders, I will create opportunities for you to connect with others throughout our region and state by providing consistent messaging and regular correspondence with district board members. I will also strive to attract newer professionals with mentoring and training opportunities to assure the long-lived relevance of this organization. Please support me in this effort by considering me as your Region 2 Representative for term 2023 – 2025.

What is the greatest challenge our profession faces and how will you lead to address that challenge?

As stated above, I believe that one of our greatest challenges is attracting new talent and growing them to meet the ever changing landscape of our profession. I also believe that succession planning is the best strategy to support the future planning of our industry. These challenges can best be managed with successful recruitment and education programs which the board can support by creating tool kits for organizations.
