- The Recreation Therapy Internship program at Atascadero State Hospital has been designed to equip students who go through this program with the skills, knowledge and confidence necessary to successfully function as a Recreation Therapy professional in a variety of settings. DSH-Atascadero is a maximum-security psychiatric forensic hospital. The all-male population ranges in age from 18 years and older. Most of our patients have committed some type of felony, suffer from a major mental illness, some type of personality disorder, and often have substance abuse problems. The Cordova Recreation and Park District is recruiting to fill an Intern I position with the Recreation department. The Intern I – Recreation will work at one or more of our facilities with duties that include doing a variety of administrative, coordination, technical and general support for assigned areas. This is a part-time training classification in which a student with current enrollment in college, with coursework related to the assigned area, can gain experience working in the field of Recreation. The position is limited to no more than 400 hours per semester: Approximately 300 hours of paid work and 100 hours of unpaid educational enrichment opportunities.
