CPRS, in conjunction with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) are dedicated to promoting children's right to play in a safe and challenging play environment. The CPSI program offers the most comprehensive and up-to-date training on playground safety as well as provides certification for playground safety inspectors.
The CPSI certification course is designed to train professionals to:
- Identify hazards on public playground equipment and grounds
- Rank hazards according to injury potential
- Apply knowledge gained to remove hazards
- Establish a system of inspections and maintenance
To find success in this program, we recommend you take the certification course, then sit for the 100 question exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, students will be certified with the National Recreation & Park Association, with a required renewal every three years.
CPSI Information and Resources
The CPSI exam consists of 100 questions. The testing agency will notify NRPA of your score approximately (4-6) weeks following the examination. NRPA will provide your exam results and an exam score report via email once the scores are received. Your name will also be listed on the nation-wide CPSI Directory if you become certified.
Please note that NRPA has a Request for Special Examination Accommodations Form at http://www.nrpa.org/siteassets/cpsi-accommodation-request.pdf (sorry, large print not available for the CPSI exam) and an English as a Second Language Accommodation Request Form at http://www.nrpa.org/siteassets/cpsi-esl-request-form.pdf. Both requests have early accommodation dates so please do not delay in submitting your request form directly to NRPA.
